This is cousin Rachel's 3rd birthday cake! She is crazy for monkey so I made her a cake to fit the occasion. Skor bar cake.... again!

Almost Famous Butter Tarts

I have been making these butter tarts for a long time now and they are famous by the people that have had them. Home made pastry (Grandma's Recipe) with sweet buttery filling! These trays were made for a local group in Coaldale. Shown above are butter tarts, pecan tarts, mini apple and blueberry pies, black forest brownie, coconut lemon bars, cranberry cherry square, and blonde brownies.

Don't forget to place your Christmas baking orders! Trays can be ordered in advance frozen and unthawed as needed.

Mexican Fiesta

This fun cake was made for a Fiesta themed Rehearsal Dinner... so fun. Love the quote the family gave me! This is pina colada cake with vanilla buttercream filling... might be my new favourite!

Fresh Flowers

I love doing cakes like this one because it's delicious Skor Bar Cake and the fresh flowers really pop off the white whipped cream. As much as a love working with fondant sometimes its not the tastiest stuff so its nice to do the whipped cream now and then!

Mini Wedding Cake

A lady I work with asked me to make a cake for her friend that is having her 25th Anniversary. She didn't have a wedding cake 25 years ago, so I made one for her. Chocolate Cake with white fondant, silver ribbon, and fondant roses to top it off!

This cake is from a few weeks ago, it was a co-workers daughters birthday. I also added a little princess tiara on top to make it just what she wanted. Chocolate cake... again, i cant help it the recipe is perfect!

50th and 25th

Last weekend we celebrated Corey's uncles 50th birthday, and his Aunt and Uncles 25th anniversary! Of course i did the cakes, my signature chocolate fudge cake. Dense, rich chocolate cake with chocolate sundae fudge in between with a sprinkle of toffee bits. It was covered with vanilla butter cream and topped with yellow fondant and we added black and yellow starts ( Boston Bruins team colors, his favorite). When we got to the party i added 8 sparklers in between the stars and it looked great when it was lit!

The other cake which i didn't really get a picture of was skor bar cake (Chocolate fudge cake with skor bits and whipped cream). I found some amazing orange and yellow Gerber daisy's to add to the top and sides of the square cake.

What a great day, it was beautiful out and we got to visit with Corey's family that we haven't seen for a while.

It's a start...

Well i am going to take some advice from some people i know and start this blog.... hopefully to get out pictures and information about my journey through baking and cake decorating. I've been getting busier and busier and this is a great way to post pictures and the stories behind them. Follow along, hopefully I'll update each new cake... But anyways here's the story of how this all began.

My mom worked for a catering company for many years and naturally I got a job there as well. After helping her in the kitchen iIrealized my huge desire to bake! Mostly because I love to eat the things I make but also because I loved how beautiful baked good could be! Also as a girl I can always remember watching my mom and grandma cook and bake up a storm so it was just a natural part of me. Often, I would see books and pictures and TV shows of people making sweet treats and would think 'I can do that' so I did. Now this is not to be said that everything I make is perfect. I am the queen of burning things because I get distracted, and everyone always knows when I've been up to some baking because I have to burn marks on my arm to prove it!

Anyways, so this baking thing took over my life for period of time and I realized how much I really loved it! I was given a few opportunities at the catering company I worked for to make some wedding cakes (see sides) and realized I had a talent. I really enjoyed making these (even if it caused me huge stress in the process, I am too much of a perfectionist in some things) and I needed to do more.

But eventually off I went to college in Calgary, and then back home to Lethbridge and got my Office Admin Diploma, worked at a golf course, doing nothing baking related, had the time of my life, then i got a 'real' job and slowed down my pace a little (i think i was 20... geez, I'm an old soul).

I've done lots of fun things, a mothers day tea at the school, and numerous birthday cakes! I am so lucky to have people to support me in what I love to do, especially my great boyfriend Corey who eats my mistakes, puts up with the messes in the kitchen, and most of all supports me no matter what.

From now on every cake I do I am going to post up here with a short story about it so I can share what I do to more people. If you are interested keep posted!
