Cookies Everywhere!

I have wanted to attempt royal icing for a while. I need to work on my piping skills and this is the icing I would need to use. Royal icing is made from icing sugar, meringue powder (powdered egg whites pretty much), and water. It hardens like cement and is used to make fancy swags and details on wedding cakes.

In my searching for technique I came across numerous websites on cookie decorating. My favourite being http://sweetsugarbelle.blogspot.com/

So having a long weekend and some spare time on my hands I decided to attempt sugar cookies.

They turned out great but I defiantly thinned out my icing a little too much but I got the idea. There is no limit to the things you can design on cookies with this icing. I fell in love with the owls from a website I saw and they were SUPER easy to make. The rest are just fun flowers and squiggles to use up the reset of the icing and cookies.

My biggest problem with these… what am I supposed to do with them now? I made 40! I hope everyone at work tomorrow is ready for some cookies.

Sesame Street

How fun is this cake!!!! I love the colors of it!

This cake took some time. Probably the most time was in mixing all the colors into the fondant. The characters came together while I was watching tv with my computer close by to try and copy the characters faces. They turned out pretty well and this is definitely on my list of favourite cakes I’ve made.

Rugby Birthday

This cake was for a friends daughters birthday. Obviously she is a rugby player so her mom wanted the cake to reflect that. I added a couple of her friends on top  in the rugby pile. I think the ‘mud’ finished it off!

More Yummy Cupcakes

These are chocolate bar cupcakes. Topped with Cadbury chocolate pieces. Some of the best chocolate icing I've ever made and I don't even remember how I did it! There was cool whip involved… and cocoa…. and butter…. and icing sugar. But god knows how much of each.

These are strawberry short(cup)cakes but I added strawberry pieces right into the icing. So good! I had to chop it up really fine to get it through a piping bag but eventually I got it all out and topped with half a fresh berry.

And here they are together….

Transformers

I was rushing out the door to deliver this cake so I just took pictures of it in my fridge… they actually tuned out quite well. I may do it more often. Haha. I know nothing about transformers so I wont try to explain… but Corey thought it was sweet. I would like to brag that I made the one on top out out icing but it’s a toy.

Lots of Love

This is a great idea for a come and go event like a bridal shower which this is for. The cake is the centerpiece and doesn't get destroyed because everyone eats the cupcakes and then the guest of honour takes the cake home.

Gone Fishing

This cake was for a fisherman's birthday… I love the cat tails… they are spaghetti pieces with fondant tops.

Pink and Zebra

Teenage girls have the best idea for cakes. They are always fun and funky and this one did not disappoint. Topsy Turvy, bright pink, zebra. So fun. I also incorporated some wire to give it something extra.

I took a picture of it from every angle because it looks so different each way.

Fun in the Sun

I had to quickly take pictures of this cake as I was heading out the door to work. It’s a slab cake for a birthday for a guy that loves the lake. It’s hard to tell bu coming over the trees I hung some seagulls flying overhead. I'm into wire lately… you can see that in my next cake too.

G-Pa

This cake was for an 80th Birthday. It seems that after 80 years there’s a lot that defines you and I tried to fit it all on this cake. Piano, John Deere, Crown Royal, Golf, Great Ideas… all wrapped around an octagon shaped cake.

First Communion Cake

I decided to take another crack at my ‘cricut cake’ machine for this cake. I was so excited to get it, but then it frustrated me so it sat unused for a while. But i am proud to say i have figured it out and am sooo excited. The trick seems to be freezing the fondant sheet before it gets cut to keep everything from moving around. It is now a permanent fixture on my kitchen table.

Making Cream Puffs

I had seen a picture of a cake similar to this online and wanted to replicate it. I have  never made cream puffs before but googled a recipe and found out how easy they were!  I made them mini so i could stack them on top of the cake. Below are a few of the steps:

IMG_9302

After making the dough i transferred it into a piping bag

IMG_9306IMG_9307

Once they were baked I let them cool right down for about an hour.

Then i filled them with cream. Easy!

This is an unfortunate photo of the cake but you get the idea. Cream puffs, strawberries, and chocolate…. you can’t go wrong with that!

On the Road

When I got asked to make this cake they woman that ordered it gave me the paying to put on. It was an inside joke between her and her husband and it turned into such a  cute cake.

This is another option if you’re not a fan of fondant. Around the border of the cake is all buttercream swirls.

Birthday Sprinkles

These were for a birthday party order. I found these adorable sprinkles at bulk barn and they have been going on every single cupcake I've made since. They are so fun!
